How long am I in Hospital?
A: Approx 1 day for Ligament reconstructions and meniscus repairs (sometimes as daycase)
Do I need crutches?
A: Usually not required (Unless having Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction or suturing of the meniscus)
When can I get the knee wet?
A: After 24 hrs the bandage will be removed and the knee can be washed after waterproof dressing is applied
When can I drive?
A: After 4-5 days for meniscus balancing. Some patients do it even at 24 hrs if the knee is comfortable
When can I return to work?
A: When the knee feels reasonably comfortable. Usually in 4-5 days for a sitting job, or a maximum of 2 weeks.
For Ligament reconstructions and Meniscus suturing, a longer period is required for the repaired tissue to heal and fix to body tissues. There will be a single elbow crutch for a period of 3-5 weeks depending on the repair. But sitting job can be resumed in 2 weeks time.
When can I swim?
A: After removal of the stitches
How long will my knee take to recover?
A: Depending on the findings and surgery; usually 4 to 6 weeks following the surgery.
When Can I return to Sports?
A: Depending on the findings, 4-6 weeks after surgery in meniscus surgery. 3-6 months for Ligament reconstructions (ACL, PCL)
